The scheduled medieval Moat has been rescued from obscurity and carefully and thoughtfully restored to its former magnificence. This was achieved in accordance with English Heritage and the Department of the Environment. The Moat was originally developed as an angling facility. Specially designed platforms were installed and, in addition, wheelchair friendly paths give access to the whole area. The water is well stocked with Roach, Rudd and Carp and provides a peaceful and serene days fishing. The necessary requirements for habitat and water quality are met with advice and direction from the Environment Agency and Severn Trent Water Authority.
There are picnic areas in both open and sheltered locations where visitors can relax and enjoy the surrounding gardens. The four and a half acre site has been sub-divided into 35 themed gardens. In addition to the Moat itself there are several water features, which create interesting noise elements and a nature trail harbouring a wealth of wild flowers, birds, ducks, butterflies and small mammals. We also have regular visits from moorhens, kingfishers, herons etc.
A sensory garden has been developed for the benefit of blind and visually impaired visitors. An abundance of scented plants and aromatic herbs have been planted.
Hundreds of trees and shrubs have been established around the site to add to the pleasure derived by our users while also supporting the environment.
