Horticulture

The Albrighton Trust is aware of the need to protect the environment and aims to become “carbon neutral.” Our horticultural policy has a focus on environmental sustainability it is organically maintained with a strong emphasis on composting and recycling.

The aim of the Horticultural project is to give  people an opportunity to mix compost, sow seeds, observe their germination, pot them on and watch them mature into flowers  they can be proud of and vegetables they can cook and eat.

Young people taking part in the Horticulture projects are often troubled with behavioural problems that can cause them to experience a sense of isolation from the rest of society. In the gardens and the greenhouse these youngsters not only have an opportunity to learn about the physical processes of growth and development in the plant world but also experience the environment and climate changes where they have living things dependant on them for their nurture and well being. Parents and Carers have told us that involvement with the project has had a settling and calming effect on their charges and often leads to a passion for gardening and in other activities to which they were introduced here at the Moat and Gardens.
