We offer educational training programmes with accredited coaches to lead your group and to ensure that the experience at the Moat is safe and rewarding to the participants. We want those who come to the Moat to sample the sport of Coarse fishing. Anglers go away having caught fish, learnt how to handle them in a “fish friendly” way, whilst being inspired to take up this sport, a healthy activity, in which people of all ages and abilities can participate and find satisfaction regardless of disabilities. The benefits from our structured programmes offer increased self esteem, a socially inclusive competitive sport which helps them to enjoy a healthy lifestyle with confidence and team building.
We are able to provide qualified Angling Coaches who are Environment Agency approved, they together with all our staff have enhanced CRB’s
All fishing equipment is available for hire at the Moat & Gardens. Individuals are invited to bring their own fishing tackle if they wish, but must use the Trust’s landing nets. In the interests of the welfare of the fish we do not allow the use of keep nets at the moat. Our clients record their catches photographically. Approved Angling rules are in force and must be adhered to.
To ensure our work continues and to be able to supply the necessary equipment we rely on donations/sponsorship from companies and individuals.
Fishing provides an opportunity for people with disabilities to take part in a sport where they are able to be involved on equal terms with the able bodied. Clients who visit the centre enjoy a few hours of the open air life and being successfully involved in a sport in spite of having disabilities. We receive glowing testimonials about the benefits the people have enjoyed as a result of their time at the Moat and Gardens. It is possible to offer this opportunity because of the nature & locality of our premises where there are suitable facilities for everyone to feel at home and to be comfortable whatever the weather.
The wheelchair friendly paths and the 7 large platforms make this an ideal place for anglers who have disabilities. Visit as an individual or as a group, we have wheelchairs available to use free of charge for visitors who are not able to walk around the garden.
Angling Volunteers are always welcome to assist with these programmes please see our volunteers page.
Advance booking is recommended for individuals, groups, schools etc. This facility is available for the exclusive use of people with special needs and their carers.
